We've been hearing a lot about the Internet of Things (IoT). What does it mean? What does it mean to you and your business? If you though the Internet was supposed to be the Internet of People, that is changing very rapidly. In fact, the number of non-human entities on the Internet far outpaces the number of humans on the planet. Each computer, cell phone, home alarm system, gaming system and vending machine competes for address space on the Internet and they are constantly chatting away. These are but a few examples of devices that communicate over the Internet and they all contribute to this digital ecosystem that we are all calling the Internet of Things. The next time you remotely set the temperature on your Internet-connected thermostat or get a text message from your oven to indicate that the Thanksgiving turkey is done, you are contributing to the growing world of IoT. There are even very creative approaches to connecting devices to the Internet. Recently, a farmer placed electronic tracking devices on each cow on his cattle ranch. He may be the first farmer to creation an Internet of Cows!
